On May 23, 2025, Vice President Shen Xin of the Chinese People's Association for Friendship with Foreign Countries (CPAFFC) met with García, Peru's Deputy Minister of Health, and Yong Motta, President of the Instituto Cultural Peruano-Chino at the CPAFFC.
Vice President Shen Xin noted that Peru was one of the first Latin American countries to join the Belt and Road Initiative (BRI), and the first in the region to sign a package of free trade agreements with China. As comprehensive strategic partners, China and Peru have long stood at the forefront of China-Latin America relations. The Chancay Port, a signature BRI project personally followed and supported by President Xi Jinping, together with the newly established direct shipping route between Chancay and Shanghai, has formed a container network connecting multiple countries across Asia and Latin America. This is expected to enhance Peru's capacity for independent development and deliver tangible benefits to the peoples of Peru and Latin America. The CPAFFC is committed to leveraging the upcoming 7th China-Latin America and Caribbean Region People-to-People Friendship Forum, to be held in Peru next year, as an opportunity to deepen bilateral exchanges at the grassroots and subnational level as well as in areas such as public health, culture and art, propelling the ship of China-Peru friendship to set sail and voyage far.
Deputy Minister García stated that, Peru and China are both ancient civilizations with shared values and a strong connection between peoples. In recent years, frequent meetings between the two heads of state have provided strategic direction for the growth of the comprehensive strategic partnership. Practical cooperation between the two countries has contributed significantly to Peru's socioeconomic development, and fostering friendly relations with China has become a broadly held consensus across all sectors of Peruvian society. Peru is committed to upholding world peace and steadfastly adhere to the One-China principle. The Ministry of Health hopes to work with the CPAFFC to enhance cooperation in areas such as traditional medicine, medical technology, community hospital development, and primary care, thereby bringing real benefits to the two peoples.
President Yong Motta noted that, the Instituto Cultural Peruano-Chino was founded even before diplomatic relations were officially established between the two countries. Ms. Teresa Joo Lamg de Siu, a longtime friend of the Chinese people, acted as a bridge for the establishment of diplomatic relations between China and Peru, devoted her entire life to the growth of Instituto Cultural Peruano-Chino, and and made outstanding contributions to the cause of China-Peru friendship. The Instituto Cultural Peruano-Chino will carry on her legacy, strengthen collaboration with CPAFFC and continuing to foster deep and lasting friendship between the two peoples.
Deng Lan, Deputy Director-General of the Department of American and Oceanian Affairs of the CPAFFC, accompanied the meeting.
