On May 26, 2025, the First China-India-UAE Tripartite Dialogue was successfully held in Beijing. Co-hosted by the Chinese People's Association for Friendship with Foreign Countries (CPAFFC) and Peking University, the dialogue centered on the theme "An Open and Cooperative Asia." Speakers at the opening ceremony included Vice President Yuan Mindao of the CPAFFC, Vice President Fang Fang of Peking University, H.E. Nickolay Mladenov, Director-General of the Emirates Diplomatic Academy, and Mohammed Saqib, CEO of the India China Economic and Cultural Council and Convener of the Global South Geoeconomic Center.
The event brought together representatives and thought leaders from government, academia, and media across the three countries. Participating institutions included the Chinese Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Peking University, the Chinese Academy of Social Sciences, the China Institutes of Contemporary International Relations, the Emirates Diplomatic Academy, the Dubai Public Policy Research Center, the Observer Research Foundation of India, the Indian Software Product Industry Round Table, the Press Trust of India, and The Hindu.
In his remarks, Vice President Yuan Mindao noted that, China, India, and the UAE, as Asian countries, each significant players in their respective regions, play distinct roles on the global stage. In response to today's volatile international landscape, in 2013, President Xi Jinping introduced a series of important initiatives: the concept of building a community with a shared future for mankind, the Belt and Road Initiative (BRI), and the neighborhood diplomacy policy grounded in amity, sincerity, mutual benefit, and inclusiveness. These initiatives provide Chinese solutions to global challenges. This trilateral dialogue serves as a vivid example of putting those concepts into practice and represents a meaningful step in exploring how Asian countries can jointly address global challenges and work toward shared prosperity.
Vice President Fang Fang highlighted that, Asia's prosperity depends on openness and collaboration. Against the backdrop of growing global complexity, it is even more important that we build trust, dispell misunderstandings, and identify pathways to mutual benefits. As this dialogue helps setting up a high-level platform connecting China, South Asia, and West Asia, it's hoped that the event can build consensus through policy dialogue, foster understanding through cultural mutual learning, and achieve mutual benefit through practical cooperation.
Director-General H.E. Nickolay Mladenov underscored that, the convening of the dialogue reflects the shared aspirations of all three countries for enhanced multilateral cooperation. China, India, and the UAE should collaborate on critical global issues including maritime security, green technology, and climate change. Such trilateral coordination holds not only regional importance but also global significance in promoting peace and sustainable development.
Mohammed Saqib remarked that, the world is undergoing unprecedented transformation. In this context, China, India, and the UAE each aspires to shape a fairer and more prosperous global order. Deepened trilateral cooperation will inject much-needed stability and constructive momentum into an increasingly uncertain international environment.
Following the opening ceremony, representatives from all three countries engaged in candid and in-depth exchanges on topics such as building cooperation mechanisms, promoting regional connectivity, and envisioning future people-to-people and cultural ties, and reached broad and positive consensuses on enhancing trilateral collaboration.
